Daidalos Foiling Monohull – Diploma 2020
The concept explores the use of an innovative, pivoting foiling unit in the context of sailing, which is characterised by technical progress. The unit is pivoted leeward, thus increasing stability, reducing drag and allowing the use of bigger, more efficient sails. Due to the dedicated hull geometry, the balancing of the crew and various trimming, adjustment and control options, the hull lifts out of the water and enters a controlled flight. The flight position can be controlled with the T-Foil rudder/elevator. The foiling unit is operated by a wireless control element on the sailors' life west. The tripartition of the aft fixed-wing sail allows adjustment of angle of attack, camber and twist. A jib enhances even pressure distribution. During the design process, the best possible compromise between usability, stability, propulsive power and resistance was sought with a focus on operation, sporty use and realisation.
This was my diploma, finishing my industrial design studies at the university of applied sciences in Darmstadt. I want to thank all my teachers, friends and colleagues for such a great and meaningful time together.
