AR Industrial Safety Helmet – 2019
The concept of the helmet explores a possible future implementation of AR in a digitized and interconnected mining industry. As part of a system of interconnected vehicles and underground "waypoints", the helmet will improve working conditions in terms of dust protection and heat generation, as well as optimize and automate common work processes. Sensor and measurement values are used to determine and display drill positions. Camera images are displayed as holograms in the cockpit of the loader driver in order to make driving in narrow tunnels safer and more effective. The location and personal assignment of the inner helmets to the respective worker makes the coordination and communication of workers more flexible and efficient. In the event of an emergency, the best possible escape route to the next meeting point is determined and displayed.
The design was developed as part of the technical design class at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt. Conceptually, the outer shell is divided into protection and technology. The personalized inside helmet is connected to the outside helmet when starting the shift. Thus the outside helmet equipped with the technology is in permanent use and the investment is kept to a minimum.
The project was exhibited at the 2019 Hannover Messe at the booth "Hessische Hochschulen". I want to thank everyone involved for their work and support.
